Wayne Gretzky Attributed #9 Helmet from 1978 LOA

Auction Estimate $2,000-$3,000

Wayne Gretzky white CCM helmet with number 9 (Gretzky’s number at the time) on the back of the helmet, purported to be and purchased as the helmet worn in the 1978 World Junior Championship. Footage and photographs from said tournament shows, and it is known, that Team Canada did indeed wear CCM helmets in the 1978 World Junior Championship Tournament. Still photos also confirm that Team Canada did indeed wear this same model CCM helmet in the tournament. However, the quality of the game footage/photography is too poor to definitively photo match this as the game-worn helmet that Wayne Gretzky wore for that tournament. This helmet was purchased from and includes a Letter of Authenticity from The Hockey Connection and is signed by Daniel Naiman. This LOA states: Letter of Authenticity. This letter is to authenticate to the best of my knowledge that this item listed below is game used. RE: 1978 World Junior Championship Wayne Gretzky game used helmet. White CCM helmet with number 9 (Gretzky’s number at the time) on the back. Helmet has CCM letters on stickers attached on both sides of the helmet. Internally the helmet shows good wear with staining, discoloration and general wear located throughout. The size and proportions of the helmet are consistent with other known game used helmets from this period. This Helmet Was Used By Wayne Gretzky During The 1978 World Junior Championships And Is One Of The Most Significant Hockey Artifacts In General Circulation. You Tube video links and photographs by request. Disclaimer: This was purchased by the Consignors husband, and although the consignor feels very strongly that this is indeed the helmet it appears to be based on her husband’s collecting knowledge and passion, this is an estate sale and the helmet is being sold "as-is" and not subject to any guarantees by Grant Zahajko Auctions L.L.C. nor any returns or exchanges of any kind. Provenance: Private Collection, Huntington Beach, California.

Alan Shephard FIRST Golf Ball He Ever Signed

Auction Estimate $4,000-$6,000

Alan Shepard, the first golf that he ever signed. Includes Beckett Authentication Services LOA A23822. Per the owner/consignor, "My husband, now ex, and I had a night club show that we took on the road for 10 years all over the U.S. One of our favorite gigs to return to year after year was to sing in Milwaukee, WI at a hotel that hosted all of the celebrities who played in an annual celebrity golf tournament in Milwaukee called the Vince Lombardi Open. The tournament was a fund raiser for the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation. Many of the Green Bay Packer football stars such as Bart Star, Mrs. Lombardi herself, and other TV and world famous celebrities played in the tournament year after year. One of our favorite celebrities was Alan Shephard and during the 3 years that we performed for all of the celebrities and people involved in the tournament, he became a friend to my husband and I. One night in the club where we were performing, we were on a break and talking with Alan. We asked him if he would sign a golf ball for us, since he was the first human to hit a golf ball on the Moon!!! He said sure so we produced a golf ball and marking pen to him. He said, 'I've never done this before - how do I write my name across all of these dimples on the ball?' My husband suggested we file down a flat spot on the ball with a nail file and he said great … so I ran up to our room in the Hotel, got my nail file, and brought it down to the lounge to Alan. He proceeded to file down a flat spot on the ball and write his name with the marking pen! Alan Shephard was a very special human being in my mind, and truly one of my heroes. The ball means a lot to me."
